In 2009 Liquid Architecture, Australia's premiere festival of sound art celebrates its 10th year with an exceptional program featuring some of the world's finest sonic explorers.

Leading the charge is one of Germany's most revered electronic composers Asmus Tietchens, whose work over the past three decades has relentlessly forged ahead into unchartered and unfamiliar sound territories. Joining Tietchens is fellow German Thomas Köner. As one half of Porter Ricks Köner's work for legendary labels including Chain Reaction redefined the face of rhythmic electronica. In more recent times, Köner has explored dense subharmonic-scapes and audio-visual environments leading to him be awarded the Golden Nica recently at Ars Electronica.

Also slated for LA10 is acclaimed composer and audio-visualist David Shea, spatial sound sculptors Samartzis/Brown/Rogerson who present their giant LRSI piece and Brisbane sound guru Joel Stern to name but a few. Add to this installations from the likes of Eugene Carchesio and you have the makings of one landmark 10 year celebration of heightened listening!

This project is supported by the Australia Council, the Australian Government's arts funding and advisory body.

  • Francisco López

Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane
FREE. 7pm.

Part of Queensland Music Festival.

Over the past 25 years, the concerts and installations of Spanish sound-artist Francisco López have generated astonishing sonic universes. His personal, iconoclastic work is grounded in a profound listening to the world, through which he seeks an absolute transformation of reality through sound.

Performing first in Brisbane for the Queensland Music Festival as part of IMA's MONO series, López will deliver one of his trademark performances in which audience members are offered blindfolds to focus their ears. López does the rest, re-contextualising sound materials ino an auditory feast.
