| John Chantler | Monoke | John Chantler released his debut CD 'Monoke' on Room40 in 2003. Recorded whilst living on the rural Japanese island of Shikoku, John has since relocated to London where he heads up ROOM40's UK operations. Monoke is a series of recordings wrought by a dislocated sense of otherness that provides a few hidden signals for his current activity.
John has performed in collaboration with Matt Nicholson of Function (devastating a packed house at the ICA in support of Fennesz) and as an occasional member of Tori Kudo's Maher Shalal Hash Baz. He has also recorded with fellow Maher travellers Tenniscoats. John currently presents Frequenzen on London's Resonance FM and is recording some new music for release on Room40 sometime in early 2007. 2006 will see John release a limited EP on Fourier Transform, a split 7" with Function on Room40 and various multiples and curios in collaboration with Carina Thorén. |
